Hey!
A pretty female friend in her early 30's met a 32 year old guy on the treadmill in Equinox Fitness Club in the Upper Eastside by saying "It's obvious that you work out a lot." They spoke and she found out that he was a former Olympic runner, worked at a major Wall St. firm and has an MBA from a top 10 school. Since she rarely meets this kind to all-around Top Gun looking type of guy she was very excited to go out on a date with him the following week.
They have a really fun dinner at SpotLight Live on Broadway off 48th St. He topped it off by singing “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” with 3 terrific professional back-up singers in front of hundreds of other diners. It also was simultaneously broadcast on the 50 foot TV screen on Broadway. SpotLight Live is like the "Mother of all Karaoke."
Later while walking in Times Square he admits that his parents were poor farmers from the Midwest. They then walk into Cold Stone Creamery for ice cream. He asked what flavor she wanted and since she's a former model she said she would just take a taste of his ice cream. He asks the server for extra Reeses Pieces and she informs him that it's an extra 69 cents. He comments to the server that is was ridiculous for them to charge extra but then agrees to take it. As they wait in line to pay, he asks his date if she thought anyone would notice if he didn't mention the extra Reeses Pieces in his ice cream. She said probably not. He ends up paying $4.89 for a medium cup of ice cream without the extra charge. As they walk out he whispers "they charge enough for this sh-t." She's now asking me if I thought that the Reeses Pieces “incident” was a "deal killer."
So let me know ask you this. Is this guy a cheapskate or is $4.89 too much for a medium size cup of ice cream?

A real man would have paid $10, and gave a tip for the service. They guy is an ass...
She is right to view this incident as a warning sign. She might want to give him another date given everything else on the date was positive but this is a bad sign for the following reasons:
1. When you walk into a Cold Stone Creamery or Haggen-Dazs, you know you're going to pay a high premium for a quality product. Whether it's $4.90 or $5.90 is irrelevant. It shows cheapness and high irritability for him to complain at that point.
2. She didn't even ask for her own ice cream, so his quibbling about the extra 69 cents is a warning flag that he is cheap.
3. Even if he's cheap and even if he thinks it's a rip-off, it shows a lack of class and poor judgement to comment aloud in front of her. Either he doesn't care what she thinks of him or he's too dumb to think ahead and realize that quibbling in front of your date (especially the first one) will be taken as a negative.
4. His willingness to steal 69 cents shows bad morals and ethics. He doesn't sound like a refined person.
5. The aforementioned 4 points raise possibility that he's lying about his background. Is he really that well off if 69 cents throws him for a loop? If he's willing to cheat at an ice cream store, could he also be burnishing his resume?
I say he is a cheapskate. Dump him. This is only the tip of the iceberg. Nobody likes to be ripped off, but to worry about this toppings upsale, is to say this 'smart' ivy guy doesnt really understand business and isnt so smart. Whats that girls number, let a real man call her.

The guy is very lucky Giuliani is no longer mayor. Under Giuliani, stealing exta Reeses Pieces was a felony with a ten year sentence. In addition, if one was making an artistic statement by stealing the extra Reeses Pieces, the sentence would be increased to twenty years in state prison.
what a loser. it's penny pinchers like that who don't know how to appreciate life for what it is. it's the small things that count and create lasting memories. Dude, throw away your designer duds and stop worrying about the measley few bucks you splurge on some I.C. he strikes me as the type of guy who sends dinner back if it's not cooked to perfection. Dumb ass, realize that you are lucky to have food on the table.
Cold Stone is the bomb-I don't care what it cost!--but its annoying when men talk about $ on dates----Don't mix business with pleasure
If she's looking for something long-term with him, then it's not a green light.
if she's looking for a guy for good arm candy in the hamptons & a good time in the sack as a summer fling that'll end around Labor Day Weekend, then it's a solid green light, i guess ?
But he might only see her as a 1 night stand or maybe 2 or 3 good bump & grinds and then it's a wrap !
Coldstone Creamery is a bit of a ripoff; but this was a first date, and it seems like he made too big of a deal out of it. Nevertheless, if that's all it takes to be a dealbreaker, then our standards are awfully high. At least go on another date, geesh!

Ridiculous! If this incident will prevent her from giving a relationship with a man a chance, then she has certainly more issues to fight with than this guy. True, it might not have been the most socially appropriate behavior on his part, but we all have our quirks. Obliviously, she is attracted to rather superficial qualities, which in itself is not necessarily a bad thing. But unless she comes to the realization that it takes some form of interpersonal acceptance to have a meaningful and long-lasting relationship with someone, she’ll be going from one first-date to the other chasing her, oh so typical Manhattan, illusion. Poor, tragic girl…. She reminds me of Holly Golightly in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”….
Obviously this guy has the annoying victim complex. Everyone is trying to take advantage of him wa wa wa. Now he blames the evil ice-cream shoppe, later he'll find a way to accuse her for everything that goes wrong in his life. Wait too long to dump him & this kind of guy will turn into a stalker.
Unfortunately I know this from experience.
